Homebound Howls _ June 2025 Newsletter 🌞

Welcome to the Homebound Hounds June 2025 Newsletter!

May Recap: Finding Pups Homes Before Summer!

As we wrap up a busy and heartwarming May, we want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who helped us push toward our big goal: getting as many dogs adopted as possible before the slower summer months.

We’re thrilled to share that thanks to the incredible support of our community, several of our adoptable dogs found their forever homes this month! Summer can be a challenging time for adoptions, so every tail that found a couch to curl up on is a win we’re celebrating.

A massive shoutout to our amazing sponsor - Lisa Vest - whose support helped us find incredible homes for three pups!  Our longest residents are Pickles and Nova and our oldest resident, Lucky, who is 13 years old.  Additionally, thank you to our partners - HotSpot 4S Ranch, Scripps Ranch Farmers Market, and Kahoots Solana Beach - who welcomed us into their spaces throughout May! From hosting adoption events to sharing our mission with their customers, your generosity and compassion make all the difference. Because of you, more people learned about our work—and more dogs got the second chance they deserve.

To everyone who stopped by, donated, adopted, fostered, or simply shared a post—thank you. You're the reason tails are wagging a little harder this month.

Let’s keep the momentum going! Summer is around the corner, and we still have some wonderful pups hoping to find their forever families.

Adoptable Dog of the Month: Meet Buddy

The Comeback Kid with a Heart of Gold

This month, we’re shining a long-overdue spotlight on Buddy, our resilient, goofy, and love-filled black pittie who’s more than ready for his forever home.

Buddy was rescued from SEAACA just in time—he was on the euthanasia list due to a severe case of pneumonia. But thanks to quick action and dedicated care, he made a full and speedy recovery. Since then, he’s been thriving under the care of his incredible foster, who has gone above and beyond to help him heal, grow, and shine.

At 5 years old and 65 lbs, Buddy is neutered, vaccinated, and packed with love. He’s athletic, smart, and eager to please, making him a dream for an active household. And while he once struggled with leash reactivity and dog sensitivity, his foster’s commitment to his progress—including private training and boarding—has completely transformed him. From reactive to rockstar, Buddy is now the star pupil at group training and lives harmoniously with his foster sister, Lady.

Despite all this progress, Buddy has had zero adoption interest, highlighting the heartbreaking reality of black dog syndrome—a pattern where black dogs are too often overlooked in shelters and rescues.

But we know Buddy is a diamond in the rough, and we’re determined to help him find the loving, active home he deserves. If you’re looking for a loyal, fun, and incredibly rewarding companion who’s already done the hard work of healing and learning, Buddy’s your guy.

Let’s not let this sweet boy be invisible any longer. Share his story. Spread the word. Help us find Buddy the forever family he’s been waiting for.

URGENT FOSTER NEEDED FOR ASH

Meet Ash, a sweet and spirited 2-year-old, 65 lb Staffy mix who’s ready for his next chapter — and he needs your help to get there.

Ash was rescued from Downey’s death row just in time, and he's been making incredible progress thanks to regular private training sessions. He’s already house- and crate-trained, and gets along wonderfully with other dogs. What Ash needs now is a foster home that can match his energy — someone who can give him the active lifestyle he thrives in, and help continue reinforcing his training in a consistent, loving environment. Ash is full of love, potential, and playful charm — he just needs a place (and person!) to help him shine.

Can you open your home to Ash? Even short-term fosters make a life-changing difference. To apply or learn more, homeboundhounds.org

May Blog Post: Pup Profile!

Pup Profile is a woman and veteran-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit operating out of San Diego

Their online platform, pupprofile.org, was launched in October 2024 and is a one-stop-shop for anyone seeking to support shelter dogs and rescue pups. Pup Profile came to be when the Founder decided to channel her time and resources into addressing the animal welfare crisis in Southern California shelters during her MBA program at UC San Diego. A talented team of like-minded dog lovers came together to bring the nonprofit venture, now known as Pup Profile, to life.

So, how does it work? Pup Profile partners with rescues and networkers throughout Southern California to help them promote their pups to fosters, adopters, and donors. Networkers can collect foster applications for shelter dogs they're trying to save, and rescues can link Amazon and Chewy wish lists to the profiles of the dogs in their care. Potential adopters are directed to either the shelter with the address and contact info provided, or to the rescue's website.

Pupprofile.org includes a Resources page with both extensive foster guides and one-page quick guides to help support new fosters and adopters. Rescues and networkers have additional resources available via a toolkit on their Community Partner Dashboard, including a shelter directory, a collection of rescue-friendly vets throughout Southern California, and other helpful content.

Pup Profile works with a professional marketing team to leverage the Google for Nonprofits Ad grant to run paid Google advertising for the pups on their site that could use some extra attention. This marketing channel boosts visibility beyond the reach of social media and individual websites, giving dogs more chances to be found by their forever families, at no cost to rescuers.

Pup Profile also raises funds for 501(c)(3) rescues that save at-risk dogs from shelters through The Pups Fund. To date, 6 rescue organizations (including Homebound Hounds), 7 dogs and a litter of puppies have benefitted from The Pups Fund. Every dollar of every donation to The Pups Fund is passed along to rescues to support the medical care of recently saved shelter dogs, as Pup Profile's admin and operating costs are managed separately.

Pup Profile is a growing nonprofit the seeks to bring together communities in support of the dogs that need us most. Want to join our team? Connect with us via our website, or on Instagram: @pupprofile. We would love to hear from you!
