A Message from our Founder
Hello, I’m Jessica, the founder of Homebound Hounds. To say that I'm a dog lover is an understatement, but it wasn't until I began fostering in 2020 did I truly understood the heartbreaking reality of the dog overpopulation crisis in America.
I’ve witnessed the transformation of California animal shelters, where once there was space for every dog, now multiple large dogs are crammed into a single kennel due to overwhelming numbers. This crisis stems from a mix of factors: irresponsible breeding, unspayed pets leading to unexpected litters, and the rising costs of veterinary care, all compounded by economic pressures that force families to make tough decisions about their pets. Last year alone, a staggering 359,000 dogs were euthanized in the US, the highest number in five years (Source: Los Angeles Times, Dec 2023). It’s a painful reality that I can’t accept. I believe that no dog should suffer because of human negligence, and together, we can make a difference.
